Global content creator and social media sensation Khaby Lame was officially named UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador. This exciting announcement took place in Lame’s home country, Senegal, after a four-day tour during which he engaged with children and youth, leading impactful change within their communities.
Lame, renowned for his unique and humorous "life hack" videos, expressed his gratitude and commitment: “Being appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador is truly an honor. UNICEF’s work in advocating for children’s rights every single day aligns perfectly with my values. Having experienced poverty as a child, struggled with my studies, and faced setbacks during the pandemic, I know firsthand that every child deserves a chance to thrive.”
As part of his new role, Lame will leverage his immense global reach and influence to amplify children's voices worldwide. His advocacy will focus on critical areas such as education, gender equality, protection from violence, access to healthcare, and promoting clean, sustainable environments.
A Rising Star with a Purpose
At just 24 years old, Khaby Lame’s rise to fame is nothing short of extraordinary. His quick-witted, silent video responses to overly complicated life hacks made him an internet sensation, earning him millions of followers and making him the most-followed TikTok user in 2025. In addition to his viral content, Lame’s accolades include being named to Fortune’s 40 Under 40 in 2022 and Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the same year. In 2024, he was recognized as one of Forbes’ Top 10 Content Creators.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell celebrated Lame’s appointment, saying, “Khaby is not just an entertainer; he is a passionate advocate for children. His creativity, powerful message, and ability to connect with millions will undoubtedly inspire positive action and change across the globe.”
A Mission of Empowerment and Action
Lame’s visit to Senegal served as an inspiring foundation for his new role with UNICEF. He met with street-connected children at a shelter in Dakar, connecting with their stories of resilience after fleeing violence and exploitation. He also visited a school in Ziguinchor, where children with disabilities access cutting-edge assistive technology, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to learn and succeed. Lame participated in a game of football with blind children, symbolizing his belief in inclusivity.
In Kolda, a region bordering The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, Lame took part in a STEM workshop aimed at empowering out-of-school girls. These girls, aged 10 to 24, are part of an association of over 3,500 young female leaders, working towards gender equality and combating gender-based violence. Through STEM education and leadership skills, these girls are being equipped to change their futures and contribute to their communities.
Additionally, Lame met the Children’s Municipal Council of Sédhiou, a network of youth leaders who hold local authorities accountable on issues affecting children. Together, they participated in a climate action initiative by planting trees in Senegal’s mangrove forests, addressing climate change’s global impact.
Inspiring a Generation of Changemakers
Khaby Lame’s journey with UNICEF is just beginning, and he is eager to continue meeting young leaders across the world who are making a difference in their communities. “I’ve met so many inspiring young people in Senegal who are taking bold steps toward positive change. Whether it’s through technology, climate action, or standing up for their rights, these youth are leading the way. I’m excited to be part of their movement and contribute to their efforts.”
Lame joins a prestigious group of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, including David Beckham, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ricky Martin, and Shakira. Together, they advocate for the rights and well-being of children everywhere.
