In a moment of well-deserved recognition, Dr. Juliet Sakyibea Amanor, the head of the Tabora-Lapaz branch of Abotare Clinic, took home the prestigious Health and Wellness Award at the 2024 Youth Excellence Awards Africa. This accolade highlights her groundbreaking work in alternative medicine and her dedication to accessible healthcare.
The award, previously held by Dr. Louisa Ansong in 2023, marks a new chapter for Abotare Clinic, a facility renowned for its innovative use of acupressure to address nerve disorders and other health challenges. Nestled within Ghana’s healthcare landscape, the clinic has gained prominence for its focus on heart-related conditions—an increasingly vital area of concern in the face of climate change.
For over 25 years, Abotare Clinic has been a beacon of hope in Ghana, operating branches in Tema, Abeka Lapaz, and Kumasi. It stands out for its non-invasive treatments for conditions such as stroke, infertility, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even erectile dysfunction. By combining ancient healing methods with modern healthcare standards, the clinic has bridged a gap that many patients didn’t even know existed.
Speaking after the awards, Dr. Amanor couldn’t hide her gratitude. “This recognition is a testament to the power of holistic healing and the dedication of my team. It inspires me to continue offering quality care to those in need, both in Ghana and beyond,” she said.
Acupressure, the cornerstone of Abotare Clinic’s practice, has steadily gained traction as an alternative to conventional medicine. In a nation where cultural beliefs often intersect with scientific advancements, this method has proven to be a viable option for many. It’s not just about healing the body; it’s about honoring the traditions that shape Ghana’s healthcare journey.
Dr. Amanor also called on the incoming administration, led by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, to invest more resources in the herbal and alternative medicine sectors. “A strengthened alternative health industry would not only relieve pressure on orthodox healthcare but also create jobs, drive research, and open avenues for export,” she emphasized.
As the applause dies down from this year’s Youth Excellence Awards Africa, it’s clear that Dr. Juliet Amanor isn’t just a winner—she’s a pioneer, paving the way for a future where alternative medicine stands proudly alongside conventional practices. Her journey is a reminder that innovation in healthcare doesn’t always mean reinventing the wheel; sometimes, it’s about looking back to move forward.
